Urban Road - New Odyssey AW19
Urban Road’s latest collection, New Odyssey AW19, has launched and my gosh it is a dark beauty. I’m especially obsessed with these adventurous animal prints below:
Here’s my favourite styled shots for this collection (read about the shoot below):
To give you more of an idea of how the shoots work for this awesome client of mine.
The styled photo shoots for these collections were put together over 4 ‘shoot days’ in 3 locations. A stunning home with interiors by Darren James Interiors located in Underwood, QLD … which we used a team of 3 of us to complete, a Currumbin photography studio space ‘11 Past 11 Studio’ … which the Urban Road team hired a lot of furniture and homewares props for, and had everything delivered to the studio on the morning of the first shoot day, there was a team of 5 for the 2 days in this studio. Our third location was the well known ‘The Open Home’ by ‘Tidal Constructions’ located in Reedy Creek, we spent a day here with a team of 3.
Using only natural lighting for the ‘in home’ shoots, bouncing light were we could. And we used a mixture of photography lighting and natural light for the ‘studio shoot’.
I never have any ‘house’ lights on … down lights are the enemy! Natural light is my favourite, if it is working well for the space, but it has been nice using photography lighting for the right situations.
Although both homes had a beautiful array of furniture and homewares for us to work with, I still had my car packed full of ‘props’ for us to use for each shoot. Books, linen (plenty of fluffy doonas and pillows), ceramics, the odd chair or bench seat and plenty foliage of course (what ever I can fit in my car really).
The editing then takes at least another full days work for each day of shooting, often more.
But for the Urban Road shoots, once I’ve done my part of the editing, the in-house UR team work on the ‘art’ … as we shoot with blank canvases on the day, and then Urban Road photo shop in the art prints. It’s easier in everyway, and bringing 20+ fresh art prints in huge sizes to every shoot would just be a pain in the butt. The unpacking and repacking alone is just time we don’t have, plus the canvases/prints use to always get damaged when we would bring them all.
Once upon a time I did the Urban Road shoots solely on my own, but as time’s gone on, we’ve slowly built up bigger teams for each shoot. It really is the greatest lesson of more heads (and hands) are better than 1. As a team the end result is always much better in a shoot like this.
With thanks to Cara of Styled Spaces and Sam of BlueMtn for their assistance to me on these styled photo shoots, these girls are not afraid of hard work with the Urban Road team, Suzie, Mel & Sarah. Big up’s to Mel for pulling the studio shoot together, a lot of work went into that one with all the furniture and homewares we needed for this empty space.
