Coolangatta Interior Photography for Design Scout Interiors

Another stunning job by the Design Scout Interiors team, this time I much more local job, this one is in Coolangatta, looking over Kirra beach.

We did this over 2 afternoons, rather than one full day, making use of all the natural sunlight this home gets, facing north-west.

BURLEIGH HEADS INTERIOR DESIGN PHOTOGRAPHY FOR KILN DESIGN

Kathryn of Kiln Design is based in Canberra, and this is her second project here on the Gold Coast that she has asked me to photograph for her. She’s been one of those people I meet and instantly felt like i’d down her for years. Such a pleasure to work with, and I’m so glad she fly up again for this shoot, to do the shoot with me.

We meet at the property before sunrise, to go over the shoot plan, and be able to get started as soon as that morning light hit. The focus was on the kitchens and bathrooms, as Kiln Design did all the finishes and fixtures.

Using a variety of natural sunlight and photography lighting of this project, see if you can pick which photographs I have used natural sunlight and which photographs I have used photography lighting for.

Currumbin Interior Photography for Interior Designer, Bligh Ramsey

I was in love as soon as I walked through the doors of this property in April 2024, Sarah had done such a beautiful job of the interiors, a quick 3 hr shoot turned into a 5 hr shoot, as I just couldn’t help myself, there were so many stunning angles.

I would love to see this gorgeous project of Sarah’s published in print, so sending all the good energy out there that I can make that happen for her.

We love showing off this beautiful project. We shared a reel on instagram, head on over there to take a look into what goes into this kind of shoot 😊

Brisbane Interior Photography for Interior Designer, Bhodz Project

Come behind the scenes on another stunning project by Bhodz Project … who knows how to set up photography lighting for this aesthetic?

Problems and solutions in Interior Photography //

Through winter, this property looking over the story bridge in Brisbane, gets no natural sunlight beaming in at all.

The positive of that is we have complete control of the light, and we don’t need to start the shoot at sunrise.

The light was reflecting really blue into the space, so the challenge was to create warmth, trying our best to make it look natural.

A big plus for this kind of photography job is if the project has been fitted with white sheer curtains (if it hasn’t we’ll bring our own to set up for the day) … luckily Bhodi has always got beautiful sheers in his projects.

We set up big folding foam core boards on the balcony as close to the window as we can, to block the blue light, and keep us in control of the lighting. Next we set up just one light, sometimes this also needs a diffuser umbrella on it, to really soften the light, depending on the aesthetic we are trying to achieve for the client. Often the sheer curtains are enough to soften the light, and the umbrella isn’t needed.

Closer to the end of this video you will see a glimpse of our lighting set up.

You could add a flash or another light to brighten the shadows inside, but we like to keep Bhodi’s shoots really soft and moody.

This work is usually done on a very low shutter speed as it is such a low amount of light to be working with. Pro tip, always shoot with a timer, or remote or simply use the iPad to press the shutter, so there’s never any chance of shake from you pressing the trigger on your camera.

Lots more Interior Photography tips like these can be found in my eBooks, a simple, fast and effective way to learn interior photography in your own time, don’t take 10 years to figure it all out on your own like I did.

Tweed Heads Architecture and Interior Photography for Tiny Home Builder, Coast Modular

Take a look behind the scenes, as I play with lighting and styling props to get the shots just right, on my Instagram @tanikablair_photography

I’ve photographed 2 of Coast Modulars tiny homes so far, and looking forward to the next one (which is a 2 bedroom modular home).

We were able to use natural sunlight on the one of these, the first one was still in the working shed, when we photographed it, hence the need to fake the sunlight. I can’t wait to show off what this exciting new business has been working so hard on .

Rainbow Bay Interior Design Photography for Design Scout Interiors

Timing is key, we arrived to this beautiful project of Jacinta’s before sunrise, to be mentally prepared for the day ahead, quick coffee and chat as we walk around, to get a good feel of each room, and where the sun was going to hit at what time (a floor plan wasn’t supplied for this photography job, hence the need to get a walk through before we started).

Trying to decide on the compositions for each room, for these kinds of stunning jobs is extremely hard … to try to simplify it, and not over shoot. I could have been there for 3 days to get perfectly styled shots of every composition, in different lighting settings.

So it’s finding the very best, trusting your creative judgment, and going with it with out getting overwhelmed of the many shots that are possible.

Trying to focus on your client in particualr (and not the other businesses that could be purchasing after the shoot) and what their marketing needs are.

Gold Coast Interior Design Photography for PLK Design

When assessing the rooms you need to photograph, it’s important to take note of the lighting conditions. One side of the house may have a warm tone, while the other side may appear colder with a blue tinge. It’s best to avoid capturing the rooms with cool, blue lighting as much as possible. Instead, wait for the natural sunlight to move throughout the day, transforming the ‘blue rooms’ into warm, inviting spaces.
Understanding and adjusting colour temperature can greatly influence the mood and ambiance of your photographs.

Take a peek into a shoot recently completed for @plkdesign, it was an absolute pleasure working with Peter for the day, to capture his latest project.

Let’s talk lighting for photography.

By timing your shots to capture the rooms when they are bathed in warm natural light, you can enhance the overall ambiance and colour temperature of the space. This attention to lighting can greatly contribute to the visual appeal and mood of your photographs.

Before a shoot, I will ask the client for a floor plan and the address of the property, I will then use an app called Sun Surveyor to predict the natural sunlight for each room of the house. I’ll write out a plan of attack for the day, down to each hour/room. Sometimes the plan will change, but this gives us a good base going into the day, to know if we are on time, or running late, to work with all the best lighting for the day.

What would you love to know about interior photography? I’m an open book, and curious what questions you have?

Gold Coast Skin Clinic Branding Photography for Skin Forum

Such a pleasure to capture this oh so very calm space. Skin Forum’s second Gold Coast location in Chirn Park.

A location and branding shoot, to use across their website, google page and social media. (and I have loved seeing how they have used their professional photography in their marketing, really making the most of it).

The brief was: MOODY …. The team wasn’t able to meet me at the location too early for the shoot, but using my various photography lighting tricks and techniques, I was able to bounce natural sunlight into the skin clinics entry foyer, and use only the feature lighting (no the downlights) to create the feel the client was after.
