Coolangatta Interior and Architecture Photography for Costello Co of Curve Coolangatta
I was thrilled to be asked to photograph Curve Coolangatta. A development by Jackaroo Property, with project marketing by Costello Co.
We did this shoot over 3 days, capturing what we could as each part of the build was complete, so Dominica could get start on marketing, while we waited for more of the build to be completed, to be able to capture it all.
Of course using the natural sunlight wherever possible, we did morning and afternoon shoots to capture it all. And well worth it.

It was challenging with sunlight, but with a few tricks, we got there in the end.
This was 1 of 4 shoots I did in Canberra in September of 2025. I did a week long work trip to Canberra for the first time in 2025, and was able to bring my young family along, to enjoy being in Canberra together.

Canberra Store Photography for Rebecca Vallance
After photographing Rebecca Vallance’s new storefront in Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast, I had impressed the team, and they asked if they could fly me to Canberra, to photograph their next new store opening, I of course said yes and I was able to organise another 3 shoots to do in Canberra the same week to make it worth while.

Generally, my shoots range from 2hr call-outs to 12 hr days … usually sitting at around 6-8 hrs for most shoots, but all of my Canberra shoots were small shoots, 2 or 4 hrs in length, starting early, so I was finished by 10am every day, so I actually brought along my young family to visit Canberra with me. Something we haven’t done before when I’ve travelled for work, and it felt like such a big moment in my career to be able to bring them on a work trip. Another big perk and why I love what I do so much.

Hotel Photography: Your Most Frequently Asked Questions Answered
As a hotel photographer working with hospitality brands across Australia and internationally, I'm often asked the same questions by hotel owners, marketing teams and accommodation providers preparing for a photography shoot.
Professional photography is one of the most important investments a hotel can make. In many cases, your photography is the first impression a potential guest has of your property and can directly influence booking decisions.
To help you prepare for your next hotel photography project, I've answered some of the most common questions I receive from clients.

To help you prepare for your next hotel photography project, I've answered some of the most common questions I receive from clients.
Why is professional hotel photography important?
Before a guest reads your room descriptions or compares your rates, they're looking at your images.
Professional photography helps showcase the quality of your property, creates an emotional connection with potential guests and builds trust in your brand. Strong imagery can increase engagement across booking platforms, websites and social media while helping your property stand out in a highly competitive market.
What makes hotel photography different from real estate photography?
While both involve photographing spaces, the goals are completely different.
Real estate photography is designed to document a property and communicate room size and layout. Hotel photography is designed to sell an experience.
Guests are not buying a building—they are buying a holiday, a business trip, a romantic getaway or a memorable experience. Great hotel photography captures atmosphere, lifestyle, service, comfort and the feeling of staying at the property.
How should we prepare our hotel for a photoshoot?
Preparation is one of the most important factors in achieving great results.
Before the shoot, I recommend ensuring all rooms and public spaces are thoroughly cleaned, maintenance issues are addressed, styling elements are in place and unnecessary signage or clutter is removed where possible.
I also work closely with clients beforehand to identify priority areas, understand marketing objectives and create a photography schedule that makes the most of the available light throughout the day.
What areas of a hotel should be photographed?
Every property is different, but most hotel photography shoots include:
Guest rooms and suites
Bathrooms
Reception and lobby areas
Restaurants, bars and cafés
Conference and event spaces
Pools and wellness facilities
Exterior building photography
Surrounding landscapes and local attractions
Lifestyle imagery of guests enjoying the property
Drone photography where appropriate
The final shot list depends on your property's unique selling points and intended use of the imagery.
Do we need drone photography?
In many cases, yes.
Drone photography and videography can provide valuable context by showcasing the property's location, surrounding landscape, proximity to attractions and overall scale.
For coastal resorts, rural retreats, golf resorts and larger properties, aerial imagery is often one of the most effective ways to communicate the guest experience.
What time of day is best for hotel photography?
Light plays a significant role in creating beautiful hotel imagery.
I typically plan photography around the direction of sunlight and the areas being photographed. Some spaces photograph best in the morning, while others benefit from afternoon or sunset light.
For larger properties, shoots are often carefully scheduled over one or more days to ensure each area is photographed under the most flattering conditions.
How long does a hotel photography shoot take?
The answer depends on the size of the property and the scope of the project.
A boutique hotel may be photographed in a single day, while larger resorts often require multiple days to capture accommodation, facilities, dining experiences, lifestyle content and drone photography.
I work with clients to create a detailed schedule before the shoot so expectations are clear and disruption to guests is minimised.
Should we include people in our hotel photography?
Absolutely.
While beautiful interior and architectural images are important, lifestyle imagery can help guests connect emotionally with a property.
Images featuring guests enjoying a meal, relaxing by the pool, checking into the hotel or using the facilities can bring a property to life and help potential guests imagine themselves there.
What should we look for when choosing a hotel photographer?
Experience within the hospitality industry is incredibly important.
Hotel photography requires a combination of architectural photography, interior photography, styling, lighting knowledge and hospitality marketing expertise.
When reviewing photographers, look beyond technical ability and ask yourself whether their images make you want to book the hotel. The best hotel photography doesn't simply show a space—it creates desire and tells a story.
Why do hotel brands choose Tanika Blair Photography?
With over 13 years of experience photographing interiors, architecture and hospitality spaces, I bring a unique perspective to hotel photography.
My background in Interior Design allows me to understand the details that matter most, while my experience working with leading hospitality brands, including Accor Hotels, has given me a strong understanding of how hotels market themselves and connect with potential guests.
My approach focuses on creating imagery that feels warm, inviting and authentic. Rather than producing photographs that feel like real estate images, I aim to capture the atmosphere, experience and personality that make each property unique.
Do you travel for hotel photography?
Yes.
While based in Northern New South Wales, I regularly travel throughout Australia and internationally for hotel photography projects. Recent assignments have taken me to New Zealand, Melbourne, Perth and North Queensland.
Ready to Update Your Hotel Photography?
Whether you're launching a new property, renovating guest rooms, refreshing your marketing materials or simply looking to elevate your brand, professional hotel photography can make a significant impact on how potential guests perceive your property.
If you're considering a hotel photography project and would like to discuss your property, I'd love to hear from you.

Kingscliff Hotel Photography for Peppers Salt Resort and Spa
Peppers Salt Resort & Spa was a special project to work on, being one of the closest Accor properties to home. Located in beautiful Kingscliff, this shoot focused on creating a fresh collection of imagery that showcased the resort's relaxed coastal atmosphere, spacious accommodation and resort facilities.
Working with my assistant, Mathilde, we incorporated lifestyle styling throughout the shoot and carefully utilised the natural light to create warm, inviting photographs that reflected the guest experience. From the guest rooms and pools to the lush grounds and shared spaces, our goal was to capture the essence of a stay at Peppers Salt—relaxed, welcoming and quintessentially coastal. It's always a pleasure working with the Accor team, and even more rewarding when the project is right here on my doorstep.

Magnetic Island Hotel Photography for Peppers Blue on Blue
Travelling to Magnetic Island to photograph Peppers Blue on Blue was one of the highlights of the year. Joined by Mathilde, we captured both photography and videography for the property, creating a complete visual library that showcased not only the hotel itself, but the incredible destination surrounding it.
Alongside styling the interiors and guest spaces, we also captured drone footage and lifestyle content throughout the area to help tell the broader story of the guest experience. From the marina views and tropical landscapes to the beautifully designed accommodation, our goal was to create imagery and video content that reflected the relaxed island atmosphere and unique appeal of staying at Peppers Blue on Blue. It's always exciting to travel for hospitality projects, and Magnetic Island certainly did not disappoint.

Gold Coast Real Estate Photography for Whitefox Realestate
This beautiful Palm Beach newly renovated home was a pleasure to photograph for Whitefox Real Estate. The owner, Lauren had done an incredible job of styling this home ready for sale. And the renovations were stunning!
We spent 6 hrs at this home (with assistant Kelly in tow) there were 24 spaces in total to capture, I was able to capture and deliver 60 photos for the 6 hr shoot package (no additional costs for this one, as the styling was so great and so easy to work with, meant we were able to achieve a lot more then usual). And also there wasn’t any complicated editing to do.
You can check out the listing (as this house is currently for sale) here.
Brisbane Store Photography for Furniture Brand MCM House
I was overjoyed to be asked to photograph MCM House’s brand new store in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, and what a beautiful store to capture. This was a 4 hr shoot photographed the day after the fit out was complete, and the day before it was opened to the public. (I’ve never had a store actually leave a day in between for photography) Unfortunately we had a very overcast/rainy day to work with for this shoot, these shoots aren’t usually able to reschedule because of weather. I would love to re-visit this store in the future to photograph it with natural sunlight streaming in.
This was a 4 hr shoot and I was able to achieve and deliver 30 photos.
Jacinta Platt's Family Home - Northern Rivers
Gold Coast Hotel Photography for Accor Hotels at Peppers Broadbeach
This was a 2 day shoot, with a second shooter/assistant/videographer. I took charge of the photographer while Mathilde stayed focused on the videography. We also had Ashley on styling.
A few kind words from the Accor Hotels team:
“Tanika is always so amazing, creative and always goes above and beyond. Her work creates a story and brings emotion to our products. She aligns all her work with our brand concepts and vision and strengthens our marketing strategies with such beautiful images.” - Ashley Gill and team, Accor Hotels
